EW DELHI: All rumours and speculations surrounding Xiaomi‘s 5X and MIUI 9 will be laid to rest today. The company, after days of teasing the device and the new UI version, will finally launch them in China.
The Chinese smartphone giant has been teasing the 5X smartphone since past few days and has even shown the device as a part of teaser images. However, nothing much is known about the innards of the device. The company has also been teasing its Android 7.0 Nougat-based MIUI 9, which is likely to debut with the smartphone itself.
Xiaomi even opened registrations for its 5X smartphone few days ago and reportedly got around 200,000 registrations within 24 hours.
From the teaser images what can be confirmed is that upcoming Xiaomi 5X will come in Black, Gold, and Rose Gold colour variants. It will also sport a dual rear camera and an overall design on the same lines as the iPhone 7 Plus.
As per the specifications leaked in a recent FCC listing, the Xiaomi 5X is said to sport a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, 4GB RAM and 3000mAh battery with USB Type-C port. A fingerprint sensor will also be present at the back. The price of the handset is also rumoured to be CNY 1999, which roughly means Rs 19,000.The company has also previewed its MIUI 9 a day before the launch
The company has also previewed its MIUI 9 a day before the launch on its official MIUI website. From the looks of it, the MIUI 9 will have three themes along with the default theme. The dock icons at the bottom will not have texts below it to give the home screen a neater look.
Xiaomi also specified which handsets will first receive the update. It said that a limited number of devices will receive the update — to be rolled out in stages — in the first batch, followed by others. The MIUI 9 beta update will be rolled out first on Xiaomi Mi 6, Redmi Note 4, and Redmi Note 4X followed by Xiaomi Mi 2 and Xiaomi Mi 2S.
