Shikhar Dhawan to replace injured Murali Vijay for Sri Lanka tour

NEW DELHI: Shikhar Dhawan has been drafted in as the replacement for injured opener Murali Vijay for India’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, the BCCI said on Monday.

Vijay, who had suffered a wrist injury during Australia’s tour of India, complained of pain in his right wrist. “Vijay, who had suffered a wrist injury during Australia’s tour of India, has complained of pain in his right wrist, while playing a preparatory match. The BCCI medical team has therefore advised that Vijay should continue his rehabilitation program,” BCCI said in a press release on Monday.

Dhawan returns to the Test team after last playing for India against New Zealand in October 2016. The 31-year-old, an ODI regular, has so far played 23 Tests in which he has 1464 runs at 38.52.

India are due to tour Sri Lanka for a three Test series followed by a five-match ODI series and a lone T20I, starting from July 26.
