Handloom industry is a traditional age old cottage industry in India. However, the role of it in the national production is declining day by day. Recently, we saw government making many efforts in bringing the industry back to its glory. As we already know, actress Samantha signed to be the face of the traditional handlooms of the state. She expressed her happiness on this and marking her words, she recently started a campaign to promote handlooms. The government of Telangana has begun a program called ‘Woven2017’, on for the occasion of National Handloom Day on August 7th. As a part of this, Samantha started a campaign on Instagram with the hashtag ‘Revive Handlooms’.
The campaign is basically to create awareness among the people about handlooms. She shared a post inviting all her followers to participate in this campaign. The post contains Samantha wearing her mom’s handloom saree with a contemporary touch. She then asks her followers to do the same and put it up on Instagram with the hashtags
#ReviveHandlooms and #Woven2017. This specific campaign is a pretty interesting idea as it blends the contemporary chic style with the golden old styles. It also brings out some nostalgic memories back for both mothers and daughters. The post gathered instant response and ladies have been digging out their mom’s sarees and giving them their own unique makeover. This campaign not only creates interest in people but is also bringing out the creativity in them. A few selected entries will win invites to WOVEN, a fashion show, showcasing the varied and rich weaves of the state.
Samantha, despite her busy schedule, is trying hard to make Woven 2017, a grand success. She is busy finishing her work projects as well as getting ready for her wedding in coming October. Though, busy with all these works, she is constantly trying to prove that she is the best at being the brand ambassador of handlooms. So, people.. now that you know about the campaign, pull out those mom’s old treasures and give them a refreshing look!
