Presidents of India info After India became free nation from 15th August,1947, the ruling system, policies, rules and regulations etc got completely changed. After many changes and modifications, Dr.B.R.Ambedkar, chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly has written Constitution of India and adopted on 26th January,1950. A new head of state was required to replace the position of Governor-General. Hence, after the official adoption of the Indian constitution, Dr.Rajendra Prasad was elected as the first President of India on the same day by an electoral college that includes members of both houses(Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) of Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies. Next in the list of presidents of India is Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was the second president of India(however 2nd person). He was considered as one of India’s most renowned philosopher and a scholar. Dr.Radhakrishnan graduated from UK’s reputed university, Oxford University and an awardee of British Order and Bharat Ratna. In India, His birthday is celebrated as “The Teacher’s Day” i.e., on 5th September.

Dr.Zakir Hussain was elected as the third president of India. He was the first muslim who became the president of the nation. Hussain was co-originator of JAmia Milia Islamia and vice chancellor of aligarh Muslim university. He was honored with many great awards such as Padma Vibhushan, Bharat Ratna etc. he was the first president of India who died during his tenure. Later, Varahagiri venkata Giri became the acting president of India after the death of Dr.Zakir Hussain.
Dr.Zakir Hussain held the position of president of India from 13/5/1967 to 3/5/1969.
He was also called as V.V.Giri. He was the only president who served the nation as the acting president of India and fourth president of India after the death of Dr.Zakir Hussain. V.V.Giri also served the nation as the Governor of Kerala (from 1/7/1960 to 2/4/1965) and the Governor of Karnataka( from 2/4/1965 to 13/5/1967). He was also a Bharat Ratna award winner.
Varahagiri Venkata Giri held as the president of India from 3/5/1969 to 20/7/1969 and again from 24/8/1969 to 24/8/1974.
Justice Mohammad Hidayatullah, after the resignation of V.V.Giri as the president of India, was appointed as the acting president of the nation for a short span as V.V.Giri contested for the next presidential elections.

Fakhruddin was the second muslim to serve the nation as the president of India, but couldn’t finish his tenure as he passed away in the middle of the tenure. Sharma also served as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh during the period 29/8/1984 and 26/11/1985.
Shankar Dayal Sharma served the nation as the president of India from 25/7/1992 to 25/7/1997.
He was popularly called as K.R.Narayanan and became the tenth president of India and assumed office on 25th July, 1997. He was born to a poor family in a small hut at Perumthanam village in Travancore, Kerala state. He was considered as an assertive and independent president who established several paradigms and broadened the scope of the highest constitutional office.
Kocheril Raman Narayanan served the nation as the president of India from 25/7/1997 to 25/7/2002.
A.P.J.Abdul Kalam is a noted name to every indian than his full name Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam. Kalam became the eleventh president of India on 25th July, 2002. Kalam was born to a Tamil family and brought up in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu state. He was well known for his unique component called ‘syncretism’. He epitomized various religious cultures, spirituals and traditions of India to different parts of the world in multiple occasions. Professionally and passionately, Kalam was a scientist, he served to the nation in various designations and contributed many of his experiments to the defense of the country.
A.P. J. Abdul Kalam served the nation as the president of India from 25/7/2002 to 25/7/2007.
Pratibha Devisingh Patil better known as Pratibha Patil assumed the presidential office on 25th July, 2007 and became the twelfth president of India. In 1962, Patil got elected as the MLA(Member of Legislative Assembly) for Jalgaon constituency in Maharashtra state. Consecutively, she won four times in the state elections in the constituency of edlabad(now called as Muktainagar) from 1965 to 1985. Later, she was elected as Rajya Sabha M.P(Member of Parliament) between 1985 and 1990.
Pratibha Patil served the nation as the president of India from 25/7/2007 to 25/7/2012.
Pranab Kumar Mukherjee well-known as Pranab Mukherjee became the thirteenth president of India and assumed the presidential office on 25th July, 2012 and is active in his tenure. Pranab joined in Indian National Congress(INC) party six decades ago and is an active politician till date. After the assassination of Indira Gandhi, he started his own party called ‘Rastriya Samajwadi Congress’ party as he was sidelined from the INC party. Pranab served the country in various designations such as Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of external Affairs, Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission, Leader of the House(Lok Sabha), Leader of the House(Rajya Sabha), Member of Lok Sabha for Jangipur( West Bengal), Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha – West Bengal) for five terms.
