MUMBAI: Shops, establishments and markets in Palghar remained shut on Wednesday to protest the terrorist attack on Amarnath pilgrims in J & K that killed seven on Monday.
Auto rickshaws and buses were plying. Schools and colleges were also open. All political parties called for the bandh. Shops and establishments responded by staying shut till 6 pm.
Two women pilgrims from Dahanu Nirmala Thakur and Usha Shankar were among those killed in the firing on their bus. They were returning from Amarnath shrine and heading to Vaishnavi. The bus operated by Om Sai Travels was not registered with the Amarnath shrine and was playing without police security.
Dahanu had drowned in sorrow when the bodies arrived on Tuesday evening. Anti-Pakistan slogans were raised by the public who vowed to visit the Amarnath shrine in large numbers next year.On Wednesday the bandh call saw the good response in Palghar. In Boisar to shops and markets remained shut. Dahanu city had shut down on Tuesday as a mark of respect for the victims.
