Kargil-Like Situation Would Never Happen Again: Northern Army Commander

Talking about the situation in Eastern Ladakh, he said the agreements are holding well.

Dras, J&K, July 26: The Northern Army Commander, Lieutenant General Devraj Anbu has said that a situation like Kargil war would never arise again on LoC. He made the comment in Dras, where he went to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas.

“I want to assure citizens Kargil-like situation is not going to happen here or elsewhere in the complete Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

Talking about the other issues, he said that the Army was successful in foiling infiltration attempts. He said the number has come down drastically compared to last year.

“We’ve countered infiltration attempts.Last yr it was very high to the tune of 115, this yr restricted to 55 or even less,” he added.

Talking about the situation in Eastern Ladakh, he said the agreements are holding well.

India is celebrating Kargil Vijay Diwas. Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered the valiant efforts of our soldiers.

“Remembering our brave soldiers who fought gallantly for the pride of our nation & the security of our citizens during the Kargil War. Kargil Vijay Diwas reminds us of India’s military prowess & the great sacrifices our armed forces make while steadfastly keeping India safe,” he wrote on Twitter.

527 soldiers had attained martyrdom in Kargil war in 1,999. Pakistani soldiers had acquired advantageous positions on hilltops in Kargil. Despite the odds, soldiers of the Indian Army scaled these peaks and gave the momentum to the Indian sides and secure the Leh-Srinagar highway. Pakistan had to withdraw their troops due to international pressure. The Indian government was lauded internationally to keep the conflict limited and not violate the LoC despite grave provocation by Pakistan.
