- Sources tell TOI Auto that pricing may begin from Rs 16 lakhs
NEW DELHI: American carmaker Jeep is all set to officially launch the CompassSUV in India on July 31. The ‘Made-in-India’ car will be the most affordable offering from the manufacturer which also has the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler in its India product portfolio.
While the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler are priced above Rs 1 crore and Rs 50 lakhs respectively, the comparatively smaller Compass – when launched – will take on the likes of Hyundai Tucson.
The car does share some design elements from its elder siblings with a seven chrome-bound slats, sharp Xenon head lights and generous chrome additions highlighting the front. On the side, the large and square wheel arches and stooping roofline are the key visual highlights. At the rear are the contoured tail-lights crowning an otherwise clean design.
The interiors of the vehicle are quite premium with white being the dominant colour of choice. The 410-litre boot is good for two large suitcases.Jeep says the Compass has over 50 safety features including electronic stability control, hill start assist and ABS with EBD. The car will be available in 1.4L multi-air petrol and 2.0L eco diesel options.
The company has kept the pricing structure under strict wraps leading to a lot of speculation in the market. While TOI Auto earlier learnt that the pricing could begin from Rs 20 lakhs, sources have now revealed – off the record – that GST will help the company start the petrol variant at around Rs 16 lakhs while the diesel could begin from Rs 18 lakhs.
