NEW DELHI: Google has released Android O preview 4 for developers, letting them complete their app development and testing on time using final system behaviors, the latest bug fixes and optimizations and the final application planning interface or APIs.
The developer preview 4 of Android O comes alongside the stable version of the Android 26.0.0 Support Library as well. The company has also introduced a new version of Android Testing Support Library that includes features like Android Test Orchestrator, Multiprocess Espresso, and more.
“Today’s Developer Preview 4 system images give you an excellent way to test your current apps on the near-final version of Android O. By testing now, you can make sure your app offers the experience you want as users start to upgrade to the official Android O platform,” said Android’s vice president of engineering, Dave Burke in a blog post.
“With Android O, users are anticipating features like notification channels and dots, shortcut pinning, picture-in-picture,autofill, and others. These features could also help increase engagement with your app as more users upgrade to Android O over time,” he added.
He also mentioned that the developer preview 4 for Android O will be the last preview version before the release of the final, stable version of Android O for consumers. He didn’t reveal the exact date of release yet.
Those who have already enrolled for the Android Beta Programme, will get the Android O developer preview 4 in next few days. Interested users can do so by visiting the Android Beta website.
Some early adopters of the new OS version have also spotted an easter egg, which shows an Octopus. The ‘Octopus’ in the easter egg is being attributed to the full form of Android O. There is still no final word as to what will be the full form of Android O and what the official mascot will be.
