NEW DELHI: Search giant Google has rolled out an SOS alert feature. The tool is designed to help the users in the time crises. The feature will provide all the essential information about any natural or human-caused disasters. The new feature is included in Google Maps, Google Search and Google News.
Talking about the new feature, Google in its official blog post said, “You’ll see maps, top stories and-when available-authoritative local information such as emergency phone numbers, websites, and translations of useful phrases.”
The company also said that during crisis situations users will see SOS Alert from Google at the top of the search results when they search for an incident or a location. Users will also see other information such as maps, top stories and emergency contact numbers. Users will also receive notification on their mobile phone about the affected area depending on their proximity. Google will also offer donation opportunities to the users with the alerts.
t the time of any crisis or disaster, users will now see SOS Alerts inside the Google Maps as well. Maps will have an icon along with a card, clicking on it will offer all the information about the incident. Along with this, Google Maps will also offer real-time updates about traffic and routes closed near the affected area.
The company also revealed that they have worked closely with organisations and government agencies that are on the front line of relief efforts, including Red Cross, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration and many others.
The company also adds that the SOS alerts will be available in local languages of the affected areas, along with English.
